DB1K 2012

It's DB1K time again folks! After taking onboard your overwhelming support for the event to be located around Otago again, the 2012 two day route is shaping up to be a ripsnorter.  A great mixture of scenic routes that take in the stunning lower South Island plus some (optional) challenging sections for those looking for something a little more ambitious.

Dates and Locations

Meet and greet plus registration sign in - Friday 20th January

Like most years, there will be a catch up the night before (5pm onwards), which is a great way to meet and have a chinwag with other DB1K riders plus ensure you get away on the morning of the 21st without any hitches. This will be at the Gladstone Hotel where the BBQ is being held. For accommodation options in and around Fairlie on the Friday night, check out the accommodation page.

DB1K day 1 - Saturday 21st January

As usual this is not a scheduled start event so you can kick off any time you like in the morning but keep in mind day 1 is made up of approximately 10 to 15 hours of riding (depending on riding style) so an early start is advised. At the end of day 1 of the DB1K route you'll end up at Alexandra for the night.  Check out the accommodation page for Alexandra accommodation options.

DB1K day 2 - Sunday 22nd January

Day one would have most likely worn you out, hopefully resulting in a good night's sleep so you are ready to tackle day two. There is no scheduled start to day two either so again kick off any time you like, though as for day one early is better as there is approximately 10 to 15 hours of riding (depending on riding style). Departing from Alexandra, the DB1K route will take you through some stunning country to the final destination of Fairlie. From here you have the option to either make your way home bruised and battered with plenty of stories to tell, or to crawl into the nearest hotel room and get some sleep.

Registration

The DB1K has always been an event free of any organisation fees and I'm happy to say this year is no different! As usual there is a small $10 cost that goes straight to land owners for access. To register simply fill in the online form found here DB1K Registration. When you register you will be emailed a registration confirmation email that includes bank details and a reference to make an online deposit.

Stickers and T-shirts

This year as well as the usual stickers we have T-shirts available.  All profits from the sales will go into covering gas, accommodation, bike maintenance, and all the other expenses associated with organising this event so if you are feeling generous grab yourself one.  Thanks!
